Heartbeats (for Pebble) App Reviews

Drops connection on lock screen

Subject says it all. Good idea for an app but not currently very functional (if my phone is unlocked, why do I need to look at my watch?). Also, would be nice to have "zone" display on watch for HR training. Willing to reconsider rating if updates fix functionality.

Doesnt work when phone is locked

First off, I think those reviewers that cant get the app likely dont have a compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitor. The app works fine with my HR monitor and my pebble on ios7, but the app stops streaming to my Pebble watch as soon as I either minimize the app or lock the phone. This renders the app completely useless. As another user noted, why would we need to view our HR on our watch if we have to keep the phone unlocked. I even made sure that the app was approved for "Background Updating" in the settings and then rebooted my phone. Still didnt work when the phone was locked. If this glitch is fixed I would give it 5 stars, but until then this app is fairly useless and a total waste of money.

Does not work with Scosche Rhythm

Scosche Rhythm does not work. Tried all trouble shooting solution.

Dose not work in locked screen!!

Also dose not work when you navigate away from the app. Do not buy until this is fixed!! Useless otherwise!

Does not work while the phone is locked.

The app stops streaming to the pebble as soon as the app is minimized or the phone is locked, making it pretty much useless.

Great - with opportunities in visuals

Finally this app works with my Zephyr HxM Bluetooth smart HR monitor. Other apps go haywire but Heartbeats displays the correct bpm. Pebble show bpm, time, connection as expected - very good at connecting/reconnecting and even launching the pebble app when the app starts. Here is how I see this iPhone and Pebble app can improve: The visuals. The moors important information this app give is the bpm. It should stand out on both UIs - iPhone and Pebble. Today it does not. On the pebble, the beating heart means nothing. Drop that, make the heart rate font as big as it could. On the iPhone use a better contrasting color scheme - back background perhaps? Grey on grey is just difficult to read when you are in the gym and can have only a glimpse on the phone. Beyond that, please add low and hight heart rate limits, so that the Pebble can buzz when reached.

Heartbeats App

The app does not work, do not purchase, pricey massive failure. I have the latest firmware, the latest iphone, and all apps and software up to date as of the date of purchase. The heart rate does not record as advertised.

Pointless

This app is pointless unless you have both a pebble smart watch and a Bluetooth heart rate monitor . You need both for the app to function and the pebble acts just as a mini projection of what you already see on your iPhone/iPod/iPad so really there is no special function for the pebble at all.

DO NOT BUY HEARTBEATS

I am fairly tech-saavy, and try as I might, I could not get this app to work. Even after I got it to sync with the Pebble--which I am returning, as it is essentially useless--it did not measure my heart rate. If the developers read this, I would like my money back, please.

Waist of money!

Doesnt work! As simple as that it doesnt work! Dont buy.

Worked as described - could use some visual improvements

Just bought your app this evening and it is working great with my pebble and H7 Heart Rate Monitor. Couple suggestions: 1) Im primarily using this for indoor studio cycling so would be nice to have the ability for it not to try and use the GPS. 2) Would also be nice if the HR number was bigger on the pebble watch 3) Add in the ability to have HR zones, see how much time you are in each zone, and display the zone number and zone range on your pebble.

50%

Didnt count my calories burned at all, which was the whole reason I purchased it. Stayed at zero the entire time. Waste of money entirely!

This a nice app, however

I really like this App. I appreciate it’s clean minimalist interface. It works well with Pebble and Runkeeper integration is a huge bonus. The only flaw and reason I do not give it 5 stars is that I cannot turn off GPS. Please add a way to turn off GPS tracking for stationary gym activities. I used it at the gym to monitor heart rate on an elliptical for an hour and it logged 5 miles running in circles to Runkeeper.

Cool but main feature doesnt work

IT WONT TRACK MY HEARTRATE even though IT IS CONNECTED and my pebble can switch the cal/km/km per hour and stop/start. DOES NOT WORK

Really works

This works but need more functions. Its very simple.

THE WORST

complete waste of time! It will track your heartbeat and nothing else the calories wont move even when youre running.....really?

Turn off Location Services

I used it in spinning class and turned off GPS. Settings, Privacy, scroll down to Heartbeats.and disable However I see a calorie count of zero. Polar app will keep the calories in a stationary mode.

Doesnt work for me

I got this app to track heart rate on my Pebble Watch while working out. It works fine when the app is in the foreground and the phone is on. If I switch to another app (to switch music or podcast tracks), it stops tracking on my watch. I cant see anyone using a heart rate app without switching to a music or other audio app. Fix backgrounding, and Ill update the review. Currently a waste.

Doesnt work and developer is unresponsive - money down the drain

The app (on iPhone 5) finds my Bluetooth heart rate monitor (Mio Link) and my Pebble fine, but it only works for about a minute or two at a time. After a few minutes the heart rate (and elapsed time/calories display) stop updating on the Pebble (there is, annoyingly, no indication that something is wrong other than the fact that the number stops changing), and if I then unlock the phone I see that heart rate is no longer being updated in the app and the red heart has disappeared, although elapsed time is still updating on the phone (but not the Pebble). The only way to get heart rate back is to force-quit the app and restart it, at which point it will work for a few minutes, then freeze again. Rinse, repeat. At this point I feel like Ive paid $2.99 for an app that doesnt effectively do the main thing it is supposed to do (receive heart rate information and display it on the Pebble). Developer has been entirely unresponsive - submitted a bug report over a week ago and followed up twice, developer never replied. I guess i basically just threw $2.99 into the garbage.

Works fine as a basic monitor

As was written in another review, disable the GPS function on your phone during the initial startup pairing. Hopefully the Pebble Inc fixes the bug. The pairing will work and now you have a basic monitor and calorie counter. If you walk out of range of your phone (30ft or so), youll lose the pairing and will have close the app and restart. The bad thing is you will lose your accumulated time and calorie count. Like I said, basic counter.
